The Returning Officer, Ishaq Eneji, announced that Senator Mark polled a total of 84,192 votes to defeat his rival, Daniel Onjeh of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 71,621 votes.
But the declaration of Mark as the winner of the election is being contested by Onjeh who noted that the election should have been declared inconclusive since the margin between the two leading candidates was lower than the number of the votes cancelled.
The margin between Mark and Onjeh was 12, 571 while the total number of votes cancelled was 29,273 and 3,744 were invalid.
According to the results declared by INEC, Senator Mark won in five local government areas: Ado, Agatu, Apa, Otukpo and Okpokwu while Onjeh won in four LGAs: Obi, Oju, Ogbadigbo and Ohimini.
