Bukola Saraki Gets N330 Million Cars

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has taken delivery of new exotic cars purchased by the National Assembly management for his official use, brushing aside widespread criticisms against such lavish spending at a time of national economic crisis.

Among the proposed vehicles were 10 top-of-the-range cars for Mr. Saraki and his official convoy.

Our market survey showed the vehicles cost N329, 515,625 – more than the budgetary allocations for many government schools.

The report triggered a firestorm of reaction from Nigerians, including President Muhammadu Buhari and former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who urged the National Assembly to shelve the plan.
Mr. Buhari said he had rejected a proposal for new vehicles to be purchased for him as part of 2016 budget expenditure.
“I turned down a N400 million bill for cars for the presidency, because the vehicles I am using are good enough for the next 10 years,” the president said during his first media chat.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo also wrote members of the National Assembly asking them to jettison the plan to buy official vehicles.
“Whatever name it is disguised as, it is unnecessary and insensitive,” Mr. Obasanjo said. “A pool of a few cars for each Chamber will suffice for any Committee Chairman or members for any specific duty. The waste that has gone into cars, furniture, housing renovation in the past was mind-boggling and these were veritable sources of waste and corruption. That was why they were abolished. Bringing them back is inimical to the interest of Nigeria and Nigerians.”
At least four of the 10 vehicles meant for Mr. Saraki have already been delivered by Lanre Shittu motors and the lawmaker has since put them to use.

Officials briefed about the matter told this newspaper that procurement process for the purchase of vehicles for the senate president was concluded since December.
However, like Mr. Saraki, the tenders board agreed the purchases be made in batches due to paucity of funds, our sources said.
Stressing what the Senate spokesperson, Aliyu Sabi, had earlier said, the source said procuring new vehicles for Mr. Saraki became a “matter of priority” because “the current cars are old and already developing faults”.

However, Minaj reportedly declined the request by saying that she will not put her life on hold for Mill’s criminal charges. Minaj has been in Los Angeles this week, and TMZ reported that it was not clear when she would return to Philadelphia. Sources also told TMZ that the couple generally fights a lot, but this has by far been the biggest one between the two.

Earlier this month, Mill was ordered to stay under house arrest for 90 days for violating his probation that stemmed from drug and gun charges from a 2008 conviction. Mill will have to wear an ankle monitor from March 1 and will not be allowed to release, record or perform music. He will also be on probation for six years and has been ordered to complete community service.

President Buhari blast Nigerian unemployed youths over N5000 Stipend

President Buhari while speaking at a meeting in Saudi Arabia,he said he had a different opinion on the N5000 stipend his party promised to give to unemployed Nigerians when they come into power.

Buhari said he would rather use the N5000 to repair the infrastructures in schools and empower mining and agriculture than to give the money to people who don’t work;

“This largesse of N5,000 for the unemployed, I have got a slightly different priority. I would rather do the infrastructure for the school that request them and empower agriculture, mining so that every able bodied person can go and get work instead of giving 5,000 to those who don’t work.”

Osinbajo Rejects Multi-Billion Naira New Residence

The building of a new residence for the nation’s president has been described as a waste of public funds. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who disclosed this yesterday said, the VP’s current residence – Aguda House – is sufficient and up to standard.

Osinbajo while interacting with Pastors and Leaders Retreat of the Fountain of Life Church, Ilupeju, Lagos, described the N6 billion already spent on the project as a misapplication of fund.

“There is no need for a new Vice President’s house; it is a kind of waste; we are now in a situation where we cannot abandon it; it has to be completed and used for a different thing,” he said.

GLO Telecommunications Denies terminating P-Square contract as brand ambassadors

Nigeria’s biggest indigenous telecoms operator, Globacom, has rubbished the reports circulating online that it has sacked one of its brand ambassadors, P-Square.

It should be recalled that blogosphere was awash with reports of the purported sack of the pop duo during the week. It was alleged that the company fell out with one-half of the group, Peter, over his conduct during the grand finale of his sponsored reality show, Glo Dance With Peter late last year.

Peter reportedly insulted officials of the company for failing to keep to their own side of the bargain regarding the competition. And when the honcho of the company, Dr. Mike Adenuga heard about the incident, he was furious, and declared that P-Square should be dropped as ambassadors.

However, a trusted source in Glo revealed to Showtime that the telecommunication giant is yet to take a decision on the fate of P-Square with the company. The source also stated that this situation is not peculiar to P-Square alone as the company is presently deliberating on whether or not to renew the contracts of the ambassadors whose deals are up for renewal.

Speaking further, the source assured Showtime that a decision on the company’s brand ambassadors would be reached in a couple of days.

Saraki Reaffirms Senate Won’t Pass Social Media Bill

Senate president, Bukola Saraki has said that Senate will not pass the controversial social media bill. Saraki told a social media conference in Lagos that parliament recognizes the role of social media in Nigeria’s development.

The proposed bill, presented to the senate last December, was “dead on arrival,” Mr Saraki added.

The bill proposes up to seven years in jail or a $25,000 (£16,000) fine for anyone found to be sending “abusive messages”.

Children sue TB Joshua’s mega church Over Death Of Their Father

Two South African children are suing the mega church of popular Nigerian preacher TB Joshua over the death of their father, their lawyer Bolajii Ayorinde has told the BBC.
The three-year-old and six-year-old have filed papers in court in Nigeria’s main city, Lagos, demanding compensation of more than 8m rand ($521,000; £375,000) from the Synagogue Church of All Nations, Nigerian media reports.

Their father was among 116 people killed when a hostel owned by the church collapsed in Lagos in 2014.

A coroner ruled last year that TB Joshua should be prosecuted over the collapse of the building, saying the church was culpable because of criminal negligence.

The pastor and church have consistently denied any wrongdoing.

Israel Houghton Announces His Divorce

The celebrated Christian worship leader, Israel Houghton has announced “with a collective heavy heart” that he and his wife of more than 20 years, Meleasa, have officially divorced.

Israel Houghton who is a worship leader at Lakewood Church, winner of five Grammy Awards published a message on social media which read: “Several years ago I failed and sinned in my marriage”.

Houghton, who was born in southern California,
said he and Meleasa had been “working through this” for more than five years, however, he added “the challenges in our relationship have proven too much to overcome”.

In a post on his official Facebook page, the Grammy-winning artist apologised to anyone “hurt to learn of my personal failure”.

Speaking of his relationship with Meleasa, he said: “We have always handled our family and ministry with grace and generosity toward others, discretion, and privacy. “So, for the sake of our amazing kids, we are also handling this privately with pastoral oversight and assistance. “We choose to remain friendly and kind to each other going forward. I am in the process of restoration and I have repented for my actions.”

Houghton is known for songs such as ‘Friend of God’ and ‘Again I Say Rejoice’ which are sung at churches and conferences around the world. When he’s not touring with his band New Breed he is a worship leader at Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas.
